Phlox has been with FFF since February 2022. What we thought would be a short stay in foster care has turned into an extended stay due to being diagnosed with stomatitis. Stomatitis is a complex, painful, and frustrating disease that causes severe inflammation in the entire mouth. The cause of stomatitis in cats is unknown. Veterinarians do know that there is an abnormal immune system response that leads to stomatitis. Because of the severity of her condition, our vets determined that Phlox needed to have all of her teeth removed to provide her relief. Under normal circumstances, 90% of cats will show complete resolution of the disease after the extractions. Phlox is in the 10% that still battle with stomatitis even after. We're currently exploring other options to help maintain Phlox's quality of life and are committed to keeping her happy and comfortable.
